NISAMAC Summer Camp
This summer I attended a camp carried out by NISAMAC, which was held in Kaiapoi. It was a very sweet memory indeed.
There were many fun activities that were held there. I made many friends there, praise be to God. It was like an international camp, I should say. People there were from Palestine, Somalia, Iraq, South Africa, New Zealand, Malaysia, Singapore, Kuwait, Africa and... that's as far as I know. We were divided into 4 even-ish teams. I was in team 1.
What kind of activities were held there?
-Swimming
There were some competitions, but unfortunately I'm not a good swimmer. I can swim, but I swim slow, compared to some people I know. My team came fourth/last. Oh well.
-Treasure Hunt
There was this challenging 'playground' filled with many equipments and some of them were like the ones in a boot camp. All of the four teams had to carry a container full of water along the journey to complete the treasure hunt. There were hose climbing tasks, rope tasks, flying fox task, Qur'anic (Koranic) tasks and lots more. My team (team 1) came first in this event, thank God.
-Abseiling and Rock-climbing
Abseiling is like going down this wall, yes, wall. It looked very very easy when the crew member did it. But once you go up there, you will feel quite unsure and scared, I guess, for first-timers. But it is totally fun. As for rock-climbing, I didn't reach the top, but I was almost there. Almost.
-Healthy Sandwich Competition
It was supposed to be a healthy sandwich competition, since the theme for the camp was 'healthy mind, healthy body' but.. we were so hungry after the treasure hunt, so we decided to go for yummy options. My team leader, 18-year-old Haneen said that. Somehow, we won. It was quite fun!
-Islamic Lectures
Some of them were carried out by Khalto Maysoon about hajj, health, food, etc. Others were presented by Sister Sara, Sister Haneen, and Sister Sondos. Involving the topics about confidence, everybody-has-their-own-goodness, life-challenges etc. They were very knowledgeable, useful and clear.
-First Aid Lecture
Carried out by Khalto Juliana and her assistant, which was in fact her 15-year-old daughter, Addeana. CPR, chocking, bandages, etc. This will be very handy in an emergency.
-Fashion Show
Good times. Dancing the dabka. Colourful, elegant, unique, pretty traditional or fancy outfits.
-Henna
Henna is like nail polish, but it's natural, and it is usually red, brownish or black. We can put it on your palm, hand, nails, feet, and/or toe nails. It eventually comes out after a couple of months. The designs were mashAllah very detailed, beautiful and creative.
-Hijab Designing
Sewing/gluing on beads, ornaments onto a scarf. It was fun. Some people complimented my work, I think it was mainly because of the way I put the long set of glimmering, bedazzling ornament. It was worth it.
-Treasure Box Designing / Paper Crafts
I didn't do either of them because the I did the hijab one but I saw the results and, they were fabulous!
My team came first overall. Teamwork and stuff! Yay! Alhamdulillah. Many new friends were made and still keeping in touch. I would love to go again. I loved it. Very much.
